About the Book

This book is sold as a digital e-book, and is intended for teaching process design to chemical engineers in their senior undergraduate year to smooth the transition from academic to professional life. While intended for classroom use, this text is also a useful reference for any engineering professional interested in process design.

Among the topics emphasized in this text are project definition, flow sheet development, equipment specifications, techniques for determining capital costs, methods for estimating operating expenses, and ways to transform these elements in to comprehensive economic statements. The text also offers 15 case studies and two sample studies.

About the Author

Chemical Engineering Process Design and Economics, A Practical Guide, 2nd Edition, was authored by G. D. Ulrich and P. T. Vasudevan.

Gael D. Ulrich is Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire where he joined the faculty in 1970. He worked at Atomics International Division of North American Aviation and Cabot Corporation prior to entering teaching. For the past thirty years he has consulted for a number of corporations and presided over a small contract research firm for ten. He is currently Visiting Scholar at the Harvard School of Public Health and Research Affiliate with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Materials Science.

Palligarnai T. Vasudevan is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire where he joined the faculty in 1988. He worked in a mammoth petrochemical company for seven years prior to entering teaching. For the past fifteen years he has worked in the areas of catalysis and biocatalysis. He is currently collaborating with researchers in Spain in the areas of hydrodesulfurization and enzyme catalysis. He has won a number of teaching awards including the University of New Hampshire's highest (Jean Brierley) teaching honor.
