XanEdu and Copyright Clearance Center Deliver New District Visions Curriculum to Washington, D.C. Public Schools

DANVERS, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb 26, 2019 — XanEdu, Inc., the nation’s premier custom course materials creation and delivery platform and solutions provider and Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a leader in advancing copyright, accelerating knowledge, and powering innovation, announce the development and distribution of text readers to support the equity goals of Passport to Learning, the Primary ELA curriculum and District Visions, the Secondary ELA curriculum for D.C. Public Schools.

“Our curriculum was developed collaboratively by D.C. Public Schools’ curriculum team and teachers. It was built with equity, access, and social justice at its core,” said Corie Colgan, Interim Chief of Teaching and Learning. “It’s a rigorous, engaging curriculum that recognizes literacy as a social justice issue and encourages teachers and students to challenge bias, racism, and injustice with words. Components of District Visions are currently being used by several other school districts around the country.”

“The Open Educational Resource movement and other school- or district-created curriculum programs face a number of common challenges, such as needing to include rigorous copyrighted content and deliver materials in print when students lack access to the internet and devices. The burden lands on the teachers, requiring them to locate, photocopy, and distribute high-risk materials,” said Brett Costello, COO of XanEdu. “All of these issues take teachers away from the classroom, adding to the burden and cost which leads to resistance from educators to adopt these types of curricula.”

“This year, access to print materials won’t be a barrier between students and engaging, rigorous texts,” said Colgan. “That’s because we’ve partnered with XanEdu and CCC to collate, secure any required copyright permissions, reproduce materials, and deliver high-quality readers – and they did it all on a tight deadline.”

“The Washington D.C. team were great partners,” said Costello. “We worked together to include the right content to achieve their budget and to deliver their exciting new custom course materials on an expedited schedule. With D.C. Public Schools, working closely together enabled us to create the most effective custom materials tailored specifically to improve access and outcomes for DCPS.”

XanEdu and CCC have a history of partnering to deliver rigorous, authentic texts into the hands of students. XanEdu continues to work with Student Achievement Partners as well as the Louisiana Department of Education to make its high-quality ready-made readers—and readers supporting the Louisiana Guidebooks ELA curriculum – available and deliverable to K-12 classrooms across the country.

Created to simplify the development and delivery of authentic readings in K-12 schools, XanEdu’s K-12 Custom Book Solutions together are cost-effective services that support the incorporation of high-value, copyright-cleared content into curriculum.
