About the Book

The purpose of this book is to influence the educator towards creativity and independent thinking with regard to methods and building relationships in the classroom. Although these strategies are presented in the context of social studies and related courses, they are mostly general in nature; they can easily be adapted to other disciplines. The same goes for age and grade appropriateness. All of the methods are flexible; all they need is the teacher’s imagination.

This book is not meant to be read cover-to-cover. Rather, it is designed as a practical tool that can be browsed for curriculum solutions as the needs arise. As teachers read about these methods, theories, and resources, we hope that they’ll think about how to apply them in their own classrooms.
