About this book

This book provides an in-depth explanation, based on research, of how effective curriculum guidelines, standards, and teaching/learning materials can be developed for effective teaching and learning in school systems. The application to African countries is explored.

It is divided into two main sections—curriculum theory and research in the first part and strategies for practical implementation in the second. It is structured around: foundations of curriculum theory and development, curriculum research, the nature and scope of curriculum theory and development, and applications to the development of curriculum standards for teaching and learning.

"This is a scholarly work, clearly written, well argued, documented with excellent logic. Its application to the African environment is lucid, logical and coherent which helps us to understand the application of curriculum theory to Africa and any other country in the world."
Professor T. Blakes, University of Jos, 2003
